Okay I haven’t posted on here forever and here is why I haven’t but why I am now!!!!

I haven’t been on because school started as well as field hockey and between that and trying to stay somewhat sane I haven’t had time to draw, much less for this blog.
I am taking studio art though! Along with graphic design, these courses are keeping me artistically busy so I felt I haven’t lost as much.

Here comes the good news!!!

For studio art, we have sketchbook assignments that help us to better express ourselves then in our in-class projects. My second one which was assigned today is very relevant to what I create on here. Score!

The assignment (part of it at least!):

To draw realistically a part of the body such as the hand or foot, but not in its entirety. Instead, leave part of it open and transform it into another object or shape, such as I do with my early art on here, a.k.a. the kind of art I love and represents who I am!!!

I am so excited!! I am not exactly enjoying studio art but loving graphic design. I hope this gives you a good update as to what I have been up to! I’ll be sure and post a picture of my final sketch book after I turn it in!

It's refreshing that you're so humble about your work, and impressive that you're actually doing all this work with an iPad. Why don't you ask for a nice tablet for Christmas? (or whatever holiday you celebrate. Channukah?) I can tell you that Wacom Intuos drawing tablets are definitely the brand to get if you're looking for one. I've been using mine for years.

I didn't want to argue, more to get clarification and give good constructive criticism. :) By ‘poetry and descriptions’, I was referencing the song lyrics and words you add to your pieces. It’s a great way to convey a message, yes, but right now the words hold more meaning than the picture itself. This might just because you’re using an iPad 2 (I wont pretend to know if it has good drawing tools), but have you considered using expressions in the actual picture to tell the story instead of words?

No I didn’t mean like mean arguing haha, and actually it was great to have someone give their perspective. And honestly right now my reasoning for the words is lack of time and, yes, the whole iPad issue. Some people are skilled at using them to draw, however I am no expert and no good at using it.

And I have considered using expressions, and in fact I have done so. I learned how to draw, paint, etc. from a very young age. I wasn’t planning to just yet, but later I will take pictures of some drawings I have done (one in particular) that do hold meaning in the picture itself to show basically what I mean when I say ‘meaning’ and words like it.

I do believe that everything has meaning, words and pictures alike, and I am trying to be more diverse in my pictures, but, again it is difficult using my iPad. I am also, well, I’m broke at the moment so I can’t buy art supplies, or at least the ones I would like to, to draw right now.

In that one ask...You sound like you're saying that art without 'a story' is meaningless. But take graphic design! People make their living designing small accents and logos that could just be a line with dots on it (or something of the sort). However they still need inspiration; every line is personal to the artist. There doesn't need to be poetry or descriptions indicating what the artist meant when they thought of the piece.

Haha I knew someone would have to argue this with me, and I completely agree with you! And if you read it again you will see that it says realistic art, such as self drawings made to look exactly like what is seen. And I didn’t mean to imply that art without a story is meaningless, because everything created, art or not, has meaning. I was simply saying that I want my art to convey something to myself, that I am not looking to please others with my art. And I didn’t say anything about poetry or descriptions ever, and I again agree. Art was made to express what someone is feeling or thinking or doing. Everything has meaning, but it is my opinion that some pieces do not convey a message, as I want my art to do. I wasn’t aiming to bash any other artists or pieces, I was simply expressing my opinion on art.

My art has a meaning. Although it may not seem like it or my art creates a need to search more or explain this meaning, it is always there in some way. Whether it was during the process or the final product, at one point there is or was a purpose to my art. While I respect and admire realistic sketches, painting, ect. and have done many of them on paper (which are in fact hanging on the walls of my house), not often is there a message or story behind, say, a self portrait of you smiling. I draw to make a point to others and more importantly to myself. Many people, and artists, would disagree with me on this fact, but that is why. I want for my art to say something about myself, my life, my journey, and the journey of others.
